Five things that make a great stay

20 10 2012

Devraj Niwas, Jaipur ensures that our guests enjoy their stay with us. Whether travelling for leisure or business, a few things can add to your comfort during a hotel stay:

Complimentary Wi-Fi access: There should be strong internet access available in room and throughout the hotel.

Quality and complimentary in-room coffee makers and water bottles: When working from your room, it’s not too much to expect to have a coffee pot for impromptu brewing. Similarly, after a long day, being able to take a swig from a water bottle that doesn’t come with a price tag attached to it is a good idea.

A multitude of electrical sockets: How hard is it to outfit a room with plugs by the bed, at the desk and near any additional seating? Most of the people travel with laptop, cell phone and camera and have to recharge all of them every day. Two plugs on each side of the bed are more than reasonable.

A pleasant and attentive staff: When you ask for that 5:45 am wake up call, it should not come at 6 am. You should never have to wait long for a taxi, and staff should know the answers to every reasonable question you ask. A hotel staff should know its hotel inside out.

Various concierge services: This isn’t mandatory, but added benefits have their own charm.

Devraj Niwas provides all these services to put a smile on your face.

Why is Navratri celebrated?

16 10 2012

Navratri festival starts today and Jaipurites give a sparkling welcome to it. Navratri is a festival of complete devotion, fasting, fun and enjoyment. The festival is celebrated for Nine days and it symbolizes victory of good over evil. During these nine days, nine forms of goddess are worshipped.

But do you all know the story behind Navratri?? Let’s see why the festival is celebrated.

Story

The legend of Navratri goes back to the time, when mighty demon Mahishasur worshipped Lord Shiva and obtained the power of eternity. Very soon he started misusing his power, killing innocent people and set out to win all three loks. Everybody was traumatized and the Gods appealed to Lord Shiva to get rid of Mahishasur. For this, all three trinity, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva combined their powers and created a divine female power, Durga. She was beautiful and Mahishasur got completely magnetized. He approached Goddess Durga with an intention to marry her. Goddess Durga accepted this proposal with a condition that Mahishasur should defeat her in a battle. He agreed. The fierce battle took place for 9 days, and at the end of ninth day goddess Durga conquered Mahishasur. The nine nights came to be known as Navratri and the tenth day came to be known as Vijaydashmi or Dussehra.

Celebration in Jaipur

Jaipur celebrates this festival with a lot of fanfare. People clad themselves in new clothes. During the nine days, they worship the different forms of Goddess Durga. Jaipur witnesses nine days of complete devotion that can be seen in almost all temples of mother goddess and nine nights of absolute enjoyment with Dandiya Ras.  There are a number of customs and rituals performed during this festival. A large number of devotees observe fasts. They also offer prayers and offer other things to the Goddess. After the puja, they eat these as ‘prasad’.

On this day huge effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran are burnt, after enacting a small part from Ramayana. People enjoy it a lot and gather in large numbers in various grounds to see it.

Food

A variety of dishes are made and served during this festival. Special Navratri cuisine is a part of the multitude of culinary delights of the country. Specific ingredients and vegetables are used for preparing delicious recipes on Navratri. The choice of vegetables may vary from region to region. Spices are restricted to red chillies, turmeric and cumin seeds and only rock salt can be used. However, one can eat milk, curd, fruits and nuts.

Celebrate Navratri to the fullest with colorful Dandiya nights and delicious cuisine this season 🙂

Essential characteristics of Boutique Hotels

13 10 2012

Boutique hotels are here to stay because they give visitors a good design, a high standard of decoration and fittings and outstanding service, allowing them to relax and spend their time exploring and enjoying the destination rather than sorting out problems with the accommodation. Essential characters of a boutique hotel are:
Individuality– Boutique hotels are all different. Housed in a wide range of buildings or villas, they use design and architecture to create entirely individual structures and spaces that catch the attention and stimulate the senses. Whatever theme or style has been chosen, you’ll never stay in a boutique hotel that’s exactly the same as the last one you stayed in.

Style– Personality and style matter to these hotels. It’s what gives them their intimate atmosphere; their air of authenticity. Boutique hotels go for style that’s deliberately introduced and followed through to the smallest of details, resulting in all-round quality that’s really appreciated by the guests.

Service– Many other parts of the service industry could learn from boutique hotels. Their low guest numbers gives them the opportunity to shine when it comes to looking after residents, and their service is always discreet but immediate; helpful without pestering and always pleasant, never patronizing.

Quality– Discerning guests know quality when they see it; from the finest bed linen to the freshest ingredients. A boutique hotel takes the time to source materials, furnishings, fabrics and accessories of the finest quality, ensuring that guests are always experiencing comfort and style.
